I recently installed VFP8, with SP1. I'm not a sophisticated user, so
when the status messages no longer show up on the graphical status
bar, I did not know why. I have 'SET STATUS BAR ON.' I need to see
things like path, number of records, etc., in the graphical status
bar.

How can I bring back the status messages on the graphical status bar?

Never mind...The command I was looking for was SET NOTIFY CURSOR ON.
This is new for VFP8 (I think).
