Default FPW 2.6 migration to VFP. - 09-18-2003 , 03:24 PM

I am trying to migrate a FPW 2.6 application to VFP.

I need some suggestions especially whether I should continue with free tables
or put them into a database.

I read thru the fantasitic book by Hentzenwerke ... should I follow making a
'Form class' and then using the instances of the form.

My experience has only been in FPW 2.6. Since migrating to VFP is as good as
re-writing the whole application, I wanted to know upfront if there were any
limitations in VFP especially in using Active X objects.

Thanks in advance...

Shah

I am migrating from FPW 2.6 to VFP 7.0. Is that the best way to go or do I
need to check out the latest version?

Shah,
While it's almost always best to go to the latest version, a lot depends on the users, that your application
(s) needs to support. VFP 8.0 has a number of features that recommend it over 7.0, but it also may not run on Win95 systems and some features will act differently on 98, SE, ME and NT - this is mostly due to the new GDI+ support.

You should check the "What's New" topic at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/us...n/default.aspx and read the articles at http://www.code-magazine.com/focus/ to see how 8.0 has improved so much over 7.0. Also, with Service Pack 1 for 8.0 being made available at the beginning of next month, some of the reported "problems" will be fixed. (See http://msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/letters/.)
