Default Foxpro DB - 04-13-2005 , 11:35 AM

Hi

A client of mine has Foxpro database. He would like to know what
software he can use to make corrections on the database. Is it possible
to import to excel using any special attachments for excel ? Have heard
that there is some software available.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

The current version is Microsoft Visual FoxPro version 9.0.

Mark,
There are a couple of standalone programs around, but they may not update all the indexes or know about newer VFP fieldtypes. The best way would be to use the latest VFP OLE DB provider in your favorite development environment (including Excel <s>), or just get a copy of Visual FoxPro.

The first question to ask is what version of FoxPro / Visual FoxPro created this data.

Rick, Could you turn on your wordwrap feature.

Thanks

Well I checked, and it was set to wordwrap at 100 characters, so I changed it down to 80.

IIRC the RFC's specify that the client software is responsible for
wrapping the text when it displays it. I know that Thunderbird had no
problem with displaying all the text just fine. It even rewraps it if I
change the layout of my screen.

a decent newsreader will wrap the text automatically.

Bully for standards. Even though I have wordwrap turned on, it doesn't
wrap quoted text in a reply message. If the sender would set a
reasonable text line length then I would think that most people would
all be able to fit it on a 'standard' size screen width. Long lines or
no wordwrap fit into the gender of html, word docs, and othe word
processors. In the newsgroups we ask people to not use these features
so that most all the users have a common playing ground. Is this such
a problem to use plain old ordinary text within reasonable boundaries?

If users used a decent standards based news reader this would not be a
problem. The news reader should format the incoming text for the
display area size on the readers end. As a matter of fact, placing hard
returns for anything but a paragraph ending is actually a bad idea. The
entire point of standards is to document how something is supposed to
work. If users choose something that can't handle content that meets
the standard, that is the fault of the user using the buggy/faulty
reader, not the poster.
