Default FOXBASE to Windows 98 - Printing problems - 08-06-2003 , 04:13 PM

Okay guys,

I'm taking you down memory lane. I have a "friend" who has an old DOS
based application written in FOXBASE and compiled using CLIPPER. Since
his circa 1990 computer running DOS is on the fritz, he wants to run in
on his "brand new" Pentium class Windows 98 machine. I copied his
database files and program executables and everything works fine except
for printing. None of the programs will print to the printer? I don't
get any error messages just no reaction from the printer. Whats up?

If any of you old-timers have resolved this issue, I would greatly
appreciate you input!

Roger

The used printer must capture LPT1 (LPT2, LPT3). Old DOS apps are
printing only into LPTx or COMx ports. Capturing of printed text you
can set in Printer properties (Start / Settings / Printers ..) and the
printer must capture the port used by program (normally LPT1).

MAke sure you're printing to LPT port. Also in win98 printer
properties UNCHECK both options in the port settings. Also make sure
the printer is DOS compatible.
