Default fox to excel - 01-20-2004 , 10:54 AM

Hi, i'd like to know how can i link fox database with microsoft excel
2000. Is there any kind of ODBC files in that way?

hi eric

thank you for your answewr. i wil try to explain better my problem. i use a
program which outputs are .dbf files. on the other hand i have an excell
utility, and i use as inputs of this utility the data from the .dbf files. so,
as you can imagine, i have to rewrite (manually) the .dbf files to the .xls
format. so the question is: is there any way to do this work automatically?

best regards

Can't you use "copy to abc type xls" (or something like that). I'm not quite
sure I understand your problem/intent.

Well I know excel can IMPORT .DBF files since I do it quite a few times. Since it lists them as DBASE files, I am not sure if it
can handle the VFP new format of DBF, but you could always use VFP to save your DBF back as Foxpro 2.X format instead of the default
VFP format, and then use Excel to open it. The DBF files I use come from both Foxpro 2.6 DOS and sometime Foxpro 2.6 Unix format,
which are the same anyhow.
When installing excel, you obviously have to include the import filter for .DBF (Dbase) files, but other than that it should work.

Hope this helps.
