Default Display settings..FPW 2.6 application. - 08-22-2003 , 10:55 PM

FPW 2.6 application.

Sometimes the application looks fine and sometimes when the application screen
comes up it would be missing some buttons. The screen would look just not right
and then the display has to be adjusted for font size 'small' and the
resolution also has to be changed.

Question - How can I change the display setting from within the program so
that no matter whatever is the resolution set on the target machine the
application would display properly..

Thanks in advance...

Shah

Shah,
In FPW this is extremely difficult - especially if the user's system doesn't have the EXACT same fonts installed as the developer. (I've found that some fonts in 2000/XP AREN'T the same as in Win 9.x, even if they are named the same!)

I've used the techinique of creating multiple versions of "large" and or critical screens, and then using the appropriate one based on the Sysmetric(1) and Sysmetric(2) values.

You really shouldn't consider changing the user's resolution - it's considered "rude" Windows behaviour. (It's also possible to "burn out" video cards/chip sets or monitors if you mange to change the resolution to an unsupported size!) It's better to check the current resolution and tell them the application can't start if it is too large or too small for your application. (You can make this check on individual screens instead, if that's a better solution.)

Hello, ShahJagat!
You wrote:

The easiest way I know of is to change all the font settings
(screen, text, field etc.) from ms-sans-serif to Arial. Arial
will not resize on ygu, but will stay the same size. However,
you need to change all of them.
