Default DBC Extensions - 07-13-2004 , 10:59 AM

"The Pros Talk Visual FoxPro 3" mentions several methods on how
to extend the DBC. I am interested in which ones people are using and
their relative advantages and disadvantages. (In case it makes a
difference, my app is for internal use only.) In particular, I am
interested in Tom Rettig's EDC and I do not know whose DBCX. Is
anyone using either of these?

DBCX is what is currently being used. I believe both Stonefield and
FoxExpress use it.

AFIAK, EDC died with Tom.

Craig is correct. EDC died with Tom.

DBCX is a multi-vendor cooperative effort started by Flash Creative
Management, F1 Technologies, and MicroMega. (Think of it as "open source",
only 10 years before anyone heard that phrase. <g>) It's basically a
"registry" for extensions. Each vendor can register their own extensions and
make them available to anyone cooperating in the mix.

In addition to FoxExpress and Stonefield, I believe FoxFire uses it as well
although it has been a couple of years since I've seen that product.

Gene,
You can get DBCX at Doug's site at http://www.stonefield.com/techpap.html.

Gene,

the Visual Extend framework supports dbcx as well.
xCase AFAIK also has some dbcx support.
Much better than to start a home grown dictionary.
