Default "data has been changed" message - 12-21-2004 , 01:43 AM

aoa
heres the prob: when my form is ativated, i fill two of it's fields by
fetching some values from db and then placing these values in those two
fields. now if i click on exit button, yo...i receive "data has been
changed. do u want 2 save changes?". can anybody tell me how to
restrict vfp8 from considering programatic changes to fields in query
mode(or browse mode, anyways) as data changes? i hope there are vfp
Gurus on this group .

maaani,
This is not a "native" VFP message - it's probably coming from the application generator. Most VFP gurus would agree that no serious application would use this sample application framework. One of the important aspects of any framework, is that you need good documentation and flexibility to customize it the way you want your applications to work - the included application generator has neither.

You may want to rewrite this app with native code, your own custom framework or one of the many free or commercial frameworks. Your only alternative to make changes to your current app may be to spend a lot of time understanding and sub-classing the classes in the application generator.

Note: A good place to start is the Framework Comparison page on the Wiki - http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll?Wiki~FrameworkFeatureChart.

maani,
That web page I provided (http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll?Wiki~FrameworkFeatureChart) shows most of them. The important point is that not all of them are optimum for all types of applications, you need to determine which is best for you and your applications and development style. I personally know people that use ProMatrix, FoxExpress and MaxFrame and they all consider them "best" - for their situations! I've played with some of the others also. My company has developed our framework (I've been using VFP since the 3.0 beta back in 1994!), and we've borrowed concepts from other frameworks, books, articles and DevCon sessions, as well as our specific requirements.
