Esteemed fellow c.d.t. members, We have a troll. snip And try to imagine the frame of mind someone must have been driven to to produce this: http://home.jtan.com/~ircd_/meetmarkjohnson/ Yes, it's the same person. These are all about the same person. There are actually those who claim that he operates under a variety of pseudonyms as well, but I did not try to establish that one way or the other. (Actually, the name he is using here may well be a pseudonym; the first and last names are both very common.) snip Some of you are still unsure whether he is a troll or not. Listen. And understand. That troll is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until constructive conversation is dead. |

We have a troll. |

[Background reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll ] Last night I had nothing better to do and so spent some time searching for past activity from our newest member. The raw numbers are staggering: this is someone who posts hundreds of messages a month, totaling tens of thousands of posts on hundreds of newsgroups going back a decade. He has averaged over five posts a day for the last ten years. He most often appears in areas of maximum controversy: abortion, homosexuality, creationism. |

Some of you are still unsure whether he is a troll or not. |

Marshall Spight wrote: We have a troll. And I've been had. I really hoped that the people who called him troll were wrong: just somebody who could make a point with a little more effort to come across clear. |

Nice research and analysis, thank you. |

[snip] Some of you are still unsure whether he is a troll or not. Until this excellent post, I was. "... or Lobster Thermidor a Crevette with a mornay sauce served in a Provencale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pate, brandy and with a fried egg on top and *PLONK* ." |

As for Mr. Mark Johnson, well, I guess I would say to him just walk away from this one. There seems to be no constructive criticism here. |

Esteemed fellow c.d.t. members, We have a troll. Very nice piece of research! I remember years ago when Fabian Pascal was kicked out so many Compuserve database and other forums for his flood of attacks on posters. |

I remember years ago when Fabian Pascal was kicked out so many Compuserve database and other forums for his flood of attacks on posters. He was not the worst; there was a woman with Logorhea (complusive writing as a mental disorder) and paranoia who would randomly attack people on any forum without stopping for days without sleep. When she collapsed and got back on her meds, she would swing the other way and complusively apologize for days. |
