Default Design a huge DB ?? help me - 01-08-2008 , 12:01 PM

Hello ,

can you help me please to analyse this situation and choose an appropriate
design for that

The prloblem / Situation

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
B-Globe is a huge company has many branches all over the world. Every branch
has its own IT center which was developed indepedently. According to the
recent needs of its decision makers, an IT consultant had been hired to
evaluate the situation and suggest solution. He studied the situation and
came up with these notes:
a) The IT centers have heterogenous DBs with different objectives.
b) The needs of the company decision makers rapidly increased during the last
12 months and are expected to increase more and more.
c) The complete monthly report may take about 2 weeks to gather the
information from the different centers and combined them together in an
appropriate format.
d) The quartly report may take about four weeks for preparation.
e) Studing the data of all branches (according to the current architectire)
to analyze the company trends and make a predictive study for the future
strategy may cost the company a high percentage (more than 40%) of the
expected gain of the new strategy.
If you are the person who will study this situation to propose a solution for
this problem, what are your suggestions in a clear and well-defined steps.
The copmany can not accept a solution which is not based on well-defined
technology and also it is impossible to suggest a solution of rebuilding all
the company IT centers in a homogeneous
and modern DBs!!.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

please suggest any assumptions or direct me to an appropriate reference (site
or book) ..
I think we can use the federated database architecture (five schema ) , data
warehousing or something like that ... plz think with me

I am sorry, but the new semester just started yesterday at my
university, and I have my own homework.

(Actually, I lied. I did my homework last night. Consider the
same approach.)
