My sys admin wants to change the name of the server that my sybase
server resides on.

What , if any, would be the consequences of this?

Generally speaking there are no problems with changing the name assuming,
of course, that you change the name *everywhere* it is referenced ...

.... all interfaces files
.... all config and RUNSERVER files
.... all master..sysservers entries (including @@servername for the server
itself)
.... all references in stored procs, triggers, referential integrity
constraints, shell scripts, etc.
.... all Replication Server objects that reference said server (eg, config
files, repdefs, subs, connections, etc.)

I'm probably leaving out a few other locations ... but you'll find them
soon enough after a name change, eh?!?! ;-)

Actually the files/locations that you need to change depend on whether you
change the name of the Sybase instance (i.e. the logical server name in
teh interfaces file), or the host name.

My reading of the OP's question is that it's the server name (host name)
that is changing - if that is correct and the Sybase instance stays the
same then only the interfaces file needs to be changed (assuming that the
host name is used there, and not the IP address.)

Yeah, it would appear that I misread the post.

Thanks for the catch!
