Default Sybase Support - 03-20-2006 , 09:56 AM

Hi All,

Am new to Database and Sybase.

Just joined in an company which has an client in Banking & Financial. I
heard a lot about sybase ase, replication server & IQ. Nowadays in this
company i hearing different news like sybase is going to stop supporting
DBMS and oracle or IBM will take over sybase kind of news...

I need some one full thought on this... please advice whether i should
continue working on sybase ase as my career or should i change for oracle
or db2.

thanks & regards
Mike.

I've heard the same rumors for the last 12 years ... Sybase is still here.

Will Sybase still be here next year, the year after that, or the year after
that? *shrug* If I could see into the future I wouldn't be sitting here
doing DBA work!! ;-)

Oracle and DB2 have a larger market share so there is a larger demand (in
terms of raw numbers) for folks with those skill sets. However, within the
Sybase market there is also a large demand for DBA's, it's just that the
number of DBA positions is lower in the Sybase market than in the Oracle
and DB2 markets.

All RDBMS's currently have a high demand for DBA's ... Sybase, Oracle, DB2,
MSSQL, Teradata, etc.

Sounds like a troll.

Let's say it's not, then pick any DBMS and learn it. If another job
comes around with a different DBMS, learn it.

Once you've learned one, they're all pretty much the same and you
simply need to learn syntax and the features it has/hasn't over the
other(s).

Cheers,
