ASE 11.5.1 on AIX 4.3

For ASE, a disk is initialized on the character device of a raw partition.
I've been setting up warm standby replication on our test environment and
when asked for a partition, I specified a character device. This appeared in
the 'admin disk_space' with the partition as '/dev/rdevicename'. I thought
this was fine but on checking the live environment, the partitions are using
the block devices. Is this correct?
