I don't know the answer to your questions, but in 1995 Sybase announced that it would not support APT after June 30, 2000. http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=953 Also someone else was trying to keep APT going as recently as 2002: http://lists.ibiblio.org/pipermail/f...q3/007884.html Hope this helps, Tom |

Tom Brehony <tombrehony.nospam (AT) eircom (DOT) nospam.net> wrote in message news:c49fd5$2h88k2$1 (AT) ID-222731 (DOT) news.uni-berlin.de... A question for those of you familiar with both Sybase and AIX. I have recently started working on maintaining an old system which has a Sybase database at it's core: Adaptive Server Enterprise/11.5.1.1/P/RS6000/AIX4.1/SWR 8509 ESD 1/FBO/Thu Jun 17 19:06:23 UTC 1999 The hardware platform is an IBM RS/6000 running AIX 4.2.1. Both Sybase and AIX versions are out of support, so the company needs to upgrade both the OS and Sybase (and possibly the RS/6000). Another complication is that the system uses the old Sybase text based windowing product APT as it's front end. While I can deal with the AIX and Sybase upgrades, something I heard recently got me thinking. Is the APT software binary compatible with AIX 5.2, and indeed will it work with Sybase 12.5.1? Tom. Why not make AIX 4.2.1. Y2k compatible and APT and Sybase aswell and let it run forever!!! You prabaly never need the IBM suport çause there's tons of info on the net. I have a few customers too with AIX 4.2.1 ML8 and they are more than happy with it. Runs as stable as hell! Could consider a newer box, don't know about your hardware but 7025-F50 still runs good under 4.2.1 Marc |

Yes, AIX 4.2.1 is very stable, and we may decide to keep it. That leads to my next question, is Sybase 12.5 compatible with Aix 4.2.1? |
