Question for Guru : Sybase IQ on external storage - dbspace sizing. -

Hi,
This may be a litle bit complex question:
We have sybase IQ running on Solaris with external EMC storage,
with one huge raid 5 dimention of space.
Now we need to create an IQ database sized 3TB.
There are 2 alternatives to do it:
1) To create one dbspace sized 3TB, on the raid dimension defined with
veritas volume manager on the storage.
* This solution is based on several sybase IQ recomendations to create
as few dbspaces as possible.
2) To divide the 3TB to X raw partitions (with vol. manager), so that
X will be equal to the number of physical disks dedicated to the
particular raid.
* From my experience, this recomendation would be good for ASE,
espesially for parallel query processing.
In other words, will sybase IQ do enough parallel IO operations, to
use the storage parallel capabilities, if it has no Idea of the
underling hardware ?
I will be really gracefull for any help.
Regards,
Ilia. |
