Default Port for ODBC? - 07-20-2004 , 07:36 PM

Hi:

I have to access a database (Sybase) via ODBC through a VPN connection
through a firewall and the network admin needs to know what port to open for
ODBC. I've never been asked this before. What port does he have to open?

Thanks,

It is DBMS and its ODBC driver who determines the port. Therefore, the port
is vendor-specific.

The port that Sybase will use is determined by the entry in the sql.ini file
normally found at %SYBASE%/ini/sql.ini. That number must also match the
number listened on by the dataserver process. In UNIX this is defined in
the $SYBASE/interfaces file. I'm not sure for NT/W2K boxes. It might be in
the %SYBASE%/ini/sql.ini on the dataserver's host.
