Default Migrating sybase from W2K to Unix solaris - 02-23-2004 , 07:28 PM

Hi all

I have a sybase dump version 11.9.2.5 ON NT and I have created a
database on solaris 5.8. sybase 12.0.0.8. when I loaded I get the
following error message

Unexpected end of file while reading beginning of dump. Please
confirm that dum
p media contains a valid SQL Server dump. The SQL Server error log may
contain m
ore information on the problem.
1>

When I go to the SQL Server log i view the error I get this
00:00000:00021:2004/02/23 20:26:19.57 server Error: 3223, Severity:
20, State:
1
00:00000:00021:2004/02/23 20:26:19.57 server Attempt to read a dump
header fail
ed; returned error code is 10.

I even tried different version of sybases, and still get this error,
Is sybase not compatible for across platform migration?
Thanks
Maria

No, only if platforms are binary compatible. This is not the case
for windows and solaris 5.8.

You can do this with DBPowerSuite. http://www.dbpowersuite.com The
program to use in DBPowerSuite is called "psCopySchema". It will copy
both the schema and data.

If there are no binary fields you could use bcp in character mode this is
supported on both platforms
