Default Looking for a way to import a huge database from later version (12.5 >> 12.0) - 06-02-2004 , 06:46 PM

For what I remember it was possible to dump 11.9 and load the dump
into 11.5 ASE. However, after a bunch of problems with such cases,
Sybase stubbed the dump/load in ASE 12.x with the error message 'bad
magic number' and it's no longer possible to execute this directly.

I have a huge database running under 12.5 in one environment and need
to load it into 12.0 in another environment, both are very
conservative, meaning that I can't flip versions with ease.

Is there any other way to quickly throw the database across versions
than upgrade or bcp?

Maybe it could be done via hex editing of the header?

I don't think it was ever possible to load a database to a server with a
lower version than the source server.

You could investigate the sybmigrate tool that ships with 12.5.0.3 and
later.
