Default Error installing on x86 Solaris - 09-19-2004 , 05:56 PM






I'm trying to install Sybase Server on an AMD Opteron machine with 512mg ram
and Solaris 9.0

I'm getting the error message: os create region can't allocate 3XXXXX bytes.

Does this mean I need more physical memory or is there a tunable parameter I
need to change? If so which!

You need to increase the shared memory value for the OS.

Hey Wayne,

Look in the "/etc/system" file for the following line:

set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=8589934592

This sets the max sharable memory segment in my system to 8GB.

Perhaps yours is set too low or missing.
