Default engines behavoiur - 08-04-2004 , 04:15 AM

Dear All,

We are using ASE-12.5(32 bit) on AIX 5.2 . We are havine 3 CPU's and
two engines. we are using datarows locking. Most of the processes
generally shows high CPU utilization consumption.

In sysmon output it always shows that one engine is 99% or 100% while
other always shows less than 10%.

Why the load is not balanced on both the engines.

1. In such case what are the configuration parameter which we look
into.

2. if i assign all the three CPU's to sybase is it going to affect
overall performance.
3. Why the processes showing so much of CPU utilization it indiacates
what and what to do in such case.

Please advise me

Regards
Suraj

How many active connections do you usually have in the server?
If you only have one (and not using parallelism), it can only run
on one engine at a time and doesn't have much reason to switch around.

Are you configured to use worker processes and parallelism (max scan
degree, etc.)? That tends to spread the work over the engines.
