Default ASE 12.0 on Solaris 8 or Solaris 9? (interpreting certification document) - 12-01-2003 , 02:04 PM

I have an ASE 12.0.0.6 server running on Solaris 2.7.

12.0 End-of-Life is announced as 12/31/2004, so I'm
planning to upgrade to 12.5.

The certification document
(at http://ohno.sybase.com/cgi-bin/ws.exe/cert/ase_cert.hts)
contains no info for ASE 12.5 on Solaris 2.7, so I assume
that combination is not supported (and I will have to upgrade
the OS first.)

The certification doc for ASE 12.0(32), Solaris 8, contains this
note:

"The esql/cobol product fails to be certified due the MF cobol
runtime compiler incompatibilities."

I'm assuming that, except for esql/cobol,
ASE 12.0 is certified on Solaris 8; is that correct?

I'm considering this path:
1. upgrade OS from Solaris 2.7 to Solaris 8 (or 9)
2. upgrade ASE from 12.0 to 12.5 (or 12.5.1)

Does anyone have any cautionary tales to share about
ASE 12.5 or 12.5.1 on Solaris 8 or 9?

Thanks,
Larry
