Default Utility that logs database locks - 07-16-2003 , 03:31 PM

Oracle Version: Oracle Rdb V7.0-14
Server: AlphaServer 2100a
O/S: Alpha Open/MVS V7.2

Is there a utility that logs database locks so that they can be checked at a
later date?
Currently we use the following command RMU/SHOW LOCKS/MODE=BLOCKING which
gives us the ability to see locks as they occur in the present, but we have
nothing in place that allows us to look into the past. There are times when
there may be a complaint about slow response and we need a mechanism that
allows us to check and make sure the database was not culprit, but if it is
then we would have the ability to pinpoint the application that was blocking
which would go along way into correcting these types of problems.

Thanks for our time

Have a great day

Bill

I keep a daily log using the following:
1) from your DCL prompt enter: RMU/SHOW STATISTICS
YOUR_DATABASE_PATH_NAME
2) From the Summary IO Statis Select: M then select: I then select: A
3) From the Stall Message menu select: ! then select: O then enter a
Log file name (to log the stalled Lock messages) then ! again then
select: Q then a filename to (log the dead lock messages).
Hope this help.
