Default Possible PROGRESS Interview Questions - 06-24-2005 , 10:46 AM

Currently, I'm searching for (1) PROGRESS Development Engineer II Req. 05034
with experience in both Windows and UNIX operating systems in Denver, CO.
Can someone advise me of at least (3) questions to ask a potential
candidature that may have PROGRESS development background? Does PROGRESS
still provide a choice of development language - Progress 4GL, SQL-92 or Java?
If so, can a developer with similar RDBMS development be able to ramp up with
PROGRESS quickly? Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

I'd start with a couple questions for your client.

What kind of interface(s) are they working with? The most relevant
candidate will be one who's worked with the kind of Progress interface
that your client is using, e.g., ADM-2, ADM-1, character, Java,
Webclient, etc.

What version(s) of Progress?

Whether a candidate's experience is on the same OS is of much less
concern, unless there are some integration angles to the project.

Besides syntax, there are some Progress-specific things that have to be
mastered coming from another database, e.g., transaction scoping.
