Default Postgresql DB Admin Tool - 06-17-2007 , 02:16 AM

Hi group,

I search for a database Admin Tool for Postgresql database like the
PL/SQL developer for Oracle from Allroundautomations.

Which one can you suggest me?

Yes, I second that - pgadmin is pretty good.

Then that makes 3 votes. I've had no real problems with it except with the
version i have it doesn't show you sequences in the gui list of objects,
though you can enter them via the sql window and see then in psql.

Hmmm - you must have a pretty old version then.

Here, on 1.6.3 (current is 1.8.0) there is a 'Sequences' entry in each
schema.

Indeed. Whenever possible though, I prefer dbvis <http://dbvis.com> as
that allows me to look at PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL and
various other engines though a unified interface. It doesn't allow me to
manage any in as great a depth as the engine-specific tools would, but I'm
generally happy to make that sacrifice in the interests of not having to
learn a different GUI for each database I manage.
DB Visualizer is cool, and I would say nothing against it.
I have found that it meets up with the promise its name gives, in that
it is great for browsing databases.

When it comes to DDL or, more generally, manipulating databases, you're
pretty much left with issuing the statements in SQL.
That is quite understandable for a JDBC program that tries to work with
many different DBMS as JDBC does not and cannot offer much more support
for changing databases.

For an administrator, I would recommend pgAdmin III (to be perfectly honest,
I would recommend psql to an administrator, but tastes vary).

For a developer, particularly a Java developer, DB Visualizer is great.

Yours,
Laurenz Albe

I just discovered EMS Sql Manager. A pretty good tool IMHO.
