Default how performing an upgrade from postgres 8.2.4 to 8.2.5 on windows - 09-19-2007 , 05:15 AM

hi !
in order to perform tests without causing mayhem on "real"
linux/postgresql servers in my company, I installed on my desktop PC
(winXP) postgres v8.2.4.
Now 8.2.5 is out and I wish to upgrade this windows/postgres server
without losing my DBs, tables, views etc. currently working.
But I don't know how to proceed.
Any idea ?
thx !
P.

1) Download the zip installation file
2) Extract it
3) Stop the postgres service
4) Run "upgrade.bat" from the directory extracted in step 2
5) Restart the postgres service

Rainer
And be sure to make a full backup in advance. :P
Just in case the **** hits the fan.

So, I guess your real question should be, "how do I upgrade a
postgreSQL server/instance running on a linux machine". "whether I
should be doing a pg_dump or not", "whether i can have the new version
of postgreSQL reside on the production system at a different directory
path and perform de-linking followed by a re-linking of the data
directory between the old postgreSQL version and the new postgreSQL
version"
