Default 7.3.3 - 'pg_dumpall' permission problems - 07-26-2004 , 11:27 PM

I'm interested in upgrading to 7.4.x, and in preparation to moving
my db's to the new version, I am looking to do a 'pg_dumpall'.

In 7.3.3 - I've logged into an xterm as the pg admin 'postgres'.

During a 'pg_dumpall > /tmp/pg_dump_all_20040726.bak', it fails
authentication for 'postgres' on db's postgres does NOT own,
and won't accept as valid the db owner's pw.

Must the db owner give the pg admin permission(s ?) on the db's?

It seems weird that the admin can be shut out.

What am I missing?

Thanks.
