Default wysiwyg editor - 12-28-2005 , 09:14 AM

Is there a wysiwyg editor for MV.BASE or any other pick/alike system?

I like to use a freeware product called Crimson
(www.crimsoneditor.com). Of course you need to have access to the
programs in a directory structure or via ftp.

If your MV flavor doesn't permit directory structure program files then
I have used the GUI Editor from AccuTerm (www.asent.com), which is very
good and allows you to compile the program on the fly.

I hope this helps,

See http://www.weaver-consulting.com/utilcat.htm
UTIL-503: PICK SCREEN EDITOR (PSE). $99.95
by R.Mercer Our most popular full screen editor. Mimicks JET-EDIT and
MDC's SEDIT editors. Works on all systems. Many options including
Basic, Format, Paren-Checker, on-line documentation (mini and
expanded), prints part or all of item, works with lists, and much more!
Ask for spec-sheet.

Written entirely in Pick/Basic. Perfect as a JET-EDIT replacement or
for those who require a very robust full screen editor.

This is probably just me being a bit "picky" - but ED is wysiwyg. The
term wysiwyg generally applies to things requiring formatting for
fonts, graphics and things, so that after you save and redisplay what
you've edited you do in fact get what you saw. If you're after
something to edit plain text - i.e. program code - then any plain text
editor is wysiwg. But then - I think we can all asume you're really
after a full-screen, or GUI, editor - something you can run from your
browser or desktop. You can easily set things up so that you can use
Notepad or anything else - via SaMBa if you're on *nix or more directly
if your MV DB is on Microsoft. wED from Accuterm is pretty good. There's also
UltraEdit (UniData flavour), and UniEditor - and many more. Never
having used mvBase though I can't say for sure which ones are
compatible. From what I've seen discussed here and heard elsewhere, D3
seems to offer more connectivity options than mvBase, btw.

Cheers
Mike.

Simon

If you are using mvBASE then take a look at the NOTEPAD utility that comes
with mvBASE. Works with mvTerm to copy the mv item to a pc file, run
notepad and then copy back - all seamlessly. I don't have access to an
mvBASE machine at the mo, but I seem to recall that you had to catalog the
program in the account that you wanted to use it in.

I think that you could NOTEPAD FILENAME ITEM_ID

mvBASE "bundles" an older version of JET.
However, the verbs are different!
DOC-EDIT is the full screen editor, just like JET-EDIT or JED.
DOC-IN is the Word processor, just like JET-IN
DOC-OUT is the Word processor output routine, just like JET-OUT.
Hint! If you are familiar with JET and are using mvBASE, you can
simply copy the mvBASE verbs to the "normal" JET verbs!

But, then again our PSE (Pick Screen Editor) mentioned in this thread
runs on mvBASE and any other MultiValue platform, and has features
for programmers that JET did not offer.

If you are running AccuTerm, their wED editor is another very good full
screen editor and comes free with the AccuTerm product.

Just check out the DEMO account this is where the NOTEPAD prog exists.

Also when you login into DEMO you will get an extra pull down menu created
at the top of mvTERM which shows other Demos

Here's another Hint!

Contact me if you have JET or similar MV-based documents and you want
to permanently get these documents out of your MV system. The JET has
landed and we offer ConnectingFlight to get your documents to their
next destination. Migrate from JET, UltiWord, or DocuMentor -
there's even limited support for Runoff and OP. Convert to Word,
HTML, RTF, PDF or OpenOffice Writer - while preserving your original
formatting. This isn't just a text conversion - tabs, columns,
heading/footing, page codes, rulers, and MANY other internal codes are
faithfully converted to allow the final document to be as maintainable
as the source (for Word and Writer). Document properties such as
Company, Author, Subject, etc are inserted into documents for indexing
and tracking back to the original source.

Tens of thousands of documents have been converted so far and all of
our clients are 100% pleased with the quality and final cost. There is
no other conversion tool like this in our market - find one that does
a comparable job and we'll do your conversion for free.
