We have some Wyse 50's and sixties available, free to a good Pick user.

take them to the UPS store or have UPS pick them up.

2. You provide the UPS pick-up label.

Not to undercut Henry here or anything, but I've got five brand spanking
new, never out of the box Adds Viewpoint terminals (not sure of the
model number) that I'll, well, give away.

You get any bites on your offer, Henry?

Dave:

Right now I am oversubscribed. However, I also have some Wyse 150"s
and 160's but I have never heard back from any of those interested in
the 50's and 60's if they would take the 150"s and/or 160's instead.

My conditions are that the equipment is free, the taker pays the
freight, preferably with a UPS account number. However, awhile ago I
purchased some special boxes, 16x16x16 I believe, that work real well
by shipping the KB's in a seperate box and doing so saves the
recipient money because a box that fits both the monitor and the KB
falls in the oversized UPS class.

If I have to buy a bunch more boxes to ship the Wyse's 60's that I am
trying to help a local agency unload, all I want is to get paid for
the boxes, in $$ or in kind since Henry is always interested in old
Pick stuff.

Right now I am still looking for any IBM RT and Open Architecture V2
(OAv2) related stuff and for a copy of MentorPro 5.0. I tried getting
it from RD but they don't have this anymore and since it is being used
by me in an application development environment only, donating such
stuff should go with a clear moral and legal conscience.

Please reply to hbkeultjesatearthlinkdotnet

Why in Dick's name are you using RT, OA, or MentorPro in an
application development environment? I thought this was for your
museum. Henry, for kicks I write code that will turn on my coffee
when I do a backup (no backup, no coffee, good motivation?), or flash
my house lights when a program fails compilation (didn't use that one
more than once) but at least people drink coffee and have house lights
so someone in this world might think that's cool. But what could you
possibly do with code written for RT or OA?

Good questions, Tony, but the request was for help so, Tony, can you
help?

However, in the spirit of comraderie on CDP I will also address the
questions.

First of all, one needs to learn from the past so as to avoid the same
mistakes in the future - that's the OAv2 part and its ties to the
PowerPC architecture that both Henry and your friends at Microsoft
have staked their future on.

Second, Microdyne (as opposed to Corel Seating) never migrated off
MentorPro and once again, I am trying to learn from the past by
migrating MentorPro to the fastest X86 hardware I can get it to run on
before porting it to mvBase, its closest living relative. It makes
sense to me to then first upgrade to MentorPro 5.0.

So, again, Tony, do you know who is hiding this box with OAv2 stuff
and/or an RT in their garage or basement?

Do you know who uses/used MentorPro 5.0 and is willing to give me what
they have or share it?

You won't learn about system internals through a database
implementation on an RT box. And while I might be a little short
sighted on this one I don't see what you could learn about modern
datbases and applications by looking at an implementation on an old
box like that. Let it rest Henry. I don't have my mind closed to
learning from the past either but I stop at reading text rather than
trying to revive the past. Look to the present and look forward.
There are great things going on right now and it's highly doubtful
that anyone will follow this bandwagon.

As a technical target mvBASE is reasonable. A week ago I would have
questioned your decision to use mvBASE as a business target. Through
recent discussions in the RD forum it seems RD has reaffirmed their
commitment to this platform and that it's not as close to death as
some of us have guessed.

That said, mvBASE is still very restricted in terms of what a modern
MV DBMS can do. Other MV platforms can provide the same ease of
migration/transition but with much more potential in terms of business
and technical options for ongoing use. MentorPro and mvBASE are
descended from ADDS and ADDS from R83. D3 has similar lineage and has
ADDS hooks, as do many MV offerings. Some of our colleagues here
would be better qualified than I to discuss the technical details of
migrations from MentorPro/mvBASE to D3 or other MV variants. The
point is, if you're really looking at moving the app to a modern
environment, don't look at mvBASE as the goal but as a lower-end
stepping stone to something that's actually current.

I can think of at least two closets where RT boxes were once hidden.
In both cases the buildings are now gone, closets, computers, and all.
Doesn't that tell you something?

No, sorry, I don't know anyone who has an RT box anymore.

I would post this request to the RD forum. Anyone who still has
Mentor Pro is more likely to be there than here. And those who have
migrated from Mentor Pro to mvBASE or D3 are probably there too.

As you've noted however, this is all licensed software, and by legal
agreement the license to use should not be transferred or shared.
