Default wireless warehouse application - 05-02-2005 , 04:56 PM

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has implemented a pick/pack wireless
warehouse application using a device such as an IPAQ to connect to a
backend Universe database system. We essentially have all the code in
the backend to do the update, but unfortunately our vendor who was
supposed to do the front-end app on the IPAQ dropped out. I guess the
ideal situation would be that someone has an application already
running on a Windows 2003 mobile o.s. that we could feed our XML data
to, and that we could process the XML data sent back from that device.
If not, does any one have any leads on a vendor that could develop this
kind of application very rapidly and that isn't too expensive. We're
not looking for anything too complex, however we would like to obtain
the source code so what happened with our previous vendor does not
happen again.

Thanks.

John

We have an application developed using Visage that would do the trick.
The application is delivered via a browser interface - in our example
we used Symbol equipment, but an Ipaq would be OK.

Only issues you need to consider with the Ipaq are robustness of the
unit itself, and also laser scanners. Last time I looked (seriously)
the bst scanner we found was a bluetooth device that was 2-3 times the
price of the Ipaq !

In terms of robustness, whilst the Ipaq is "relatively" flimsey, in
comparison to "brand name" (dsigned for purpose) PDE's, you can afford
to drop a few :-)

If you are interested I should be able to set something up for you to
see "remotely" - of course your brwser window will be a tad bigger, but
you would get the idea.

Whilst I have no problem licencing source for the application, Visage
source would be a different matter (we do do this, but fails your "too
expensive" test)

john,

We had a simular challange

What we ended up doing was buying intermeccs and have a vpn
client/telnet session running our universe softeware.

Biggest benefir easy to maintain the softeware (no installs) and it
works great! Jus a bit tricky for screensize..
