Default Wintegrate to local laserjet - 02-16-2006 , 12:44 PM

For years I've been using Wintegrate and its function "win.printon" to
print to printers attached to workstations. Recently I've purchased two
new HP lasers, one a dirt cheap USB 1020 model and another a midrange
HP 1320. Neither of these will print using the wintegrate scheme.
Anyone have any clues?
Thanks for any help,
Terry Pennington

Hey, Terry. How's it going?

Sorry I don't have a wIntegrate solution for you. But I have had similar
problems with printing forms and reports on dumb printers (printer that
require Windows drivers). We have Active Fax on our network for sending out
faxes and emails. Active Fax can also act as a printer server. Here is what
you do:

1) Install the printer and whatever drivers are needed for Active Fax to see
and print to the printer.
2) Add "@F503 ":WINP:",D,H@ " to the header of your document, where WINP is
the printer share name.
3) Send your report to Active Fax. Active Fax will route the report to the
printer.

You can embed PCL6 commands and include overlays as well. Pretty slick.

I hope this helps.

Don't suppost they are GDI printers? (the brain-dead kind that need a
special driver to work, 'cause the company skimped on the components)

You could always ask IBM

Terry,

Change the printer I/O from RAW to TEXT.
(Printer; Properties; Advanced; Print Processor (button); TEXT)

You may also require to define the printers as shared printers.
(Printer; Sharing)

Hope it helps,
Lucian
