Default What's the Best Way to get D3 Administrator Training - 06-27-2006 , 01:10 PM

I cut my database teeth on Prime INFORMATION 5.2 back in 1986. Later I
made the transition to Vmark's uniVerse 7.3. Now I've been using
Raining Data's D3 since February 2002. Yet through all this, I've only
been formally trained on Prime INFORMATION. I feel that I need to know
more about taking care of D3 properly.

What would be the best approach towards learning how to take care of
the database properly?

Should I buy a one user license and setup a test server with the same
O/S that our production box uses, then try creating and removing the DB
on the test server? Should I have a consultant spend a couple of days
with me showing me how to take care of the beast?

I'm in the Dallas, TX area.

I'm thinking that I need to upgrade the database to the latest version
of D3, but I'm concerned that this might be more trouble than it is
worth. Does it make sense to stay current?

Thanks,
Danny

When you say "Current," which release are you running?

*snort*

Looks like you have to post that info again, like you did in the other
thread.

Hey, Danny, I plan to be in the DFW area this weekend (my house is
still on the market in Cedar Hill even though I have moved to Wichita,
KS...worse yet, my wife is still IN the house that is STILL on the
market!!!) so if you have some time I can show you a few things that
would be helpful. Just let me know.

You tell me? What is the current Linux release of D3?

This is what I'm using now: Running on D3 7.2.1 Linux from Raining Data
on Red Hat 7.1 (Seawolf). ABS patch level is 7.2.1.A96.

Thanks,
Danny
