Allen - pico and nano are a bit easier than vi.

p.s. I'm actually learning vi this week!

Everybody should know at least a smattering of vi to hack their way around
*nix boxen. You might want to check out this site:

I know :q! to quit a document I've gotten into with vi <docname>

That one command (<shif>colon-q-<shift>splat) as the way to quit a
document has been enough to dissuade me from learning any more vi
commands (although not from making sure I can arrow around in spite of
using j's and other keys to do so).

Which one of these is not like the others...
quit
exit
ex
bye
<esc> then Y
<ctl>-q
q
qu
:q!

Whoever designed vi clearly does not have me in mind as an end user.

Cheers! --dawn

Well, there's always EMACS if vi doesn't work for you.

The nice thing about vi is that it's on almost all *nix boxes. So, if
you get past its nasty learning curve, you've got an editor that's
almost certain to be on the machine you're working on.

And given my druthers, I still like working with ED, as simple,
antiquated and limiting as it is. Old habits are hard to break. Which
is why very so often I find myself typing in NSED to bring up the
non-shared editor. That doesn't work very well.

Well at least it's provided some pre-Xmas entertainment.. I've been away
from CDP for a few weeks due to overwork and a recent reload of my PC.....

It's nice to remember why I like it here.... Not that I've furthered mine
or anybody elses knowledge of "pick" in the past hour...

Super,

I was rereading the other thread, and the gentleman started throwing
out accusations after just 3 posts. Sounds like a pretty short fuse to
me.

Accusations? Hardly. Merely observations posted in a public forum.
Interesting that you felt the need to jump right in and "step up to the
plate" to presumably take your swat at said "gentleman".

For the record, I am not in any clique. I have respect for my fellow
CDP'ers, but we disagree on many, many things.

Happy Holidays everyone....

To quote Dawn, "...that's so last year." Merry Christmas.

That's a great site. It's amazing that you should post a link to them
just today. I was thinking of these recent threads and went there to
look for an appropriate icon to express my sentiments. Among others:

I thought better of posting anything like this ... until now.

Hi Tony,

Merry Christmas.

I'm the first to admit I have no real understanding of the topology of
Usenet. I use Google groups these days, and I don't even understand
where all these messages are stored.

But, I have to ask... How do you change the name of the topic or
subject when you respond?

You can refer me to another source, or not answer at all. I understand
we all don't have much extra time.

I promise not to call you p*s.

Thanks

I have a complete (I think) cheat sheet for vi here:

unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm
programs, you would not hear of that party again in our
political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course,
that believes you can do these things. Among them are [a] few
other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or
business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and
they are stupid." - President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 11/8/54
