Default What Happened to Microdata? - 02-27-2007 , 11:06 AM

I'm just curious exactly what happened to Microdata Corporation. Did
they get bought out - did they sell their assets completely to
someone...I've seen the words "taken over by", but I was looking for a
little bit more factual information. Any help would be greatly
appreciated...thanks!

I Think, Dawn (who post on here regular) may know the answer to this -
she has an MV family tree at http://www.tincatgroup.com/mv/MVFamilyTreeColor.pdf

With a few stops on the way, including, IIRC,
McDonnell Douglas Information Systems.

Microdata Reality is owned, maintained, enhanced, and distributed by
Northgate Information Systems.

This is old news. I don't think anyone in this market sees this as
something new anymore. Don't worry about take-overs or anything.
Northgate seems to have a solid hold on Reality (that sounds So funny)
with no indication whatsoever of letting go. If you need to upgrade
an old Microdata then Reality is the natural path. If you are
considering migration from another environment then Reality is
reported to be a worthy contender.

Two words: Black Sambucca.

Make it three: Hangover.

Mike.

PS. The posts to which you refer might have been, um, ill conceived,
but you don't really think they were in Mr Fisher's class do you?

I appreciate the information from everyone, but my question is still
unanswered, unfortunately. Boeing is still paying out benefits to
Microdata employees (actually, any affiliate or subsidiary of
McDonnell Douglas Corp - of which Microdata Corp is listed) for an
Employee Payroll Stock Ownership Plan (public knowledge), which tells
me that they absolutely must have the right to make decisions
regarding legal matters (such that I am researching.)

However, then you guys - who know of Microdata's assets intimately -
tell me that Reality is now wholly owned by Northgate, which I also
know to be true (and obviously public knowledge.)

So...this begs the question "Did McDonnel Douglas sell *some of the
assets* of Microdata to Northgate and possibly others prior to being
acquired in whole by The Boeing Company in 97, or did MD divest itself
*wholly* of Microdata before being acquired in whole by The Boeing
Company in 97?" And that is what I need to know.

(This is what trips me up....) So why is Boeing paying out these
benefits to Microdata employees who took part in the payroll stock
ownership plan if - when aquiring MD - Microdata didn't come along for
the ride? The only logical answer to this - from the information that
I have - is that Northgate must now own rights to Reality only - which
were sold to them at some point during MD's ownership - while the rest
of Microdata stayed with MD.

Make any sense to anyone? Any more info, input, or challenges would
be greatly appreciated.

Lisa

I am sure there are those who lived in Reality who might have more
information, while I have only studied a thread of interest to me for
the MV Family Tree. From what I recall, MDISI which became MDIS was
spun off from McDonnell-Douglas somewhere in the mid to late 90's. I
do not recall if it was a subsidiary or a completely separate
organization, but I am pretty sure it was not acquired by Boeing. I
think that spin-off is what became Northgate, but I'm not certain of
that -- perhaps Northgate existed before then and bought out MDIS. I
might have such information in my notes, but I do not recall.
