Everyone has said "yes" to your inquiry. *You could take that to mean
"existing".

As far as public, "yes", I have clients running interfaces which are
accessed from the open internet. *I have a Facebook app which is
backed by MV. *And I have created a number of other services for open
consumer facing apps which all integrate tightly with MV.

I think a problem here was that you led with the title "Web Services"
which is a specific kind of connectivity.

I think another problem is that you just ask if something exists, not
if you can use it, buy it, see it in action, or see the source. *If
you can narrow your needs down to a "I need to do 'this' " I think
you'll get a more focused and less frustrating response.

If your ultimate question is "where can I get something for free, with
source, that just does what I want" I'm afraid your responses will be
limited. *Somewhere between that and where we started should lead to
something more helpful.

I want to try out an existing public service which has Pick as a back-
end.
Please provide the exact URL, or Call, which I can do, to do this.
I want a specific site, a specific function, and what it does, and
have to use it.

Is that clear now?
I want something exact, specific, existing, public, which I can
actually use, today.

One thing though. *If it's a web service, what do you care about the
"back end"? *One of the major aspects of web service is that it's just
an API into a "black box". *Your applications should never be concerned
with, nor should it matter, how the back end is implemented.

Because I want to "shop local" if at all possible.
I want to support a Pick shop that is trying to create services when I
have the choice.

Ahh, finally, the answer. Interesting. I've never heard of anyone
making the decision to use a web service based on the implementation
technology because they wished to support a particular market.

Glen I tried to go to your developers page you linked above and it's
just a redirect back to itself or something weird like that.... No
information on it.
Hmm.. It's just a static page with info and links to PDFs and a
request form. It works from all of the areas I can test from. If you
are interested in getting inventory and pricing then let me know and I
will send you the related documents if the page still doesn't work. A
temp developer key can be generated for these two tools but I like to
"examine" the business case when someone requests a developer key. We
do not have unlimited resources to give any 'Joe' playground access to
our XML tools. There are some systematic usage limitations to control
abuse, but I just like to know who wants to integrate and why.

Keep in mind that you can take any HTML form online and mechanize it.
The only drawback is if the content layout changes then your parsing
app could pick up the wrong info from a redesigned page or the URL
could change completely. A perfect example of this kind of "public
integration" is the free USPS address look-up module in Perl which I
wrote about in an article years ago in Spectrum.

Glen Batchelor
