Default VCS - MV systems - 02-13-2007 , 01:37 PM

A client is looking to move to a 'vcs' process. They are D3 shop but
are looking to a 'windows/unix' solution. I was asked if there were
any MV products and I mentioned the few that I had heard of being used
in the mv world. PRC and preforce (also searched the group).

If there are any others being used for MV configuration, either MV
specific OR easy to link to MV I would like to know.

Thanks

ps .. this isn't an invitation to discuss the best for/next/loop
constructs <G>

Do yourself a favour and talk to the guys at Perforce. They will be
happy to discuss you needs and walk you through a complete demo.
Their cross-platform client is impressive, their product is industrial-
strength, and their support is very good.

The only downside is that it is not cheap.

Other than Perforce, and if you want to go the inexpensive route, I've
heard good things about Subversion, but never used it myself.

In all cases, you will have to set up your D3 system to store source
code in O/S level files as text to be accessible from a VCS.

I've looked at subversion before for mvBase vcs. One of the problems I
had is that it only lets you check out a directory at a time. For our
(inhouse) application, that would have meant storing each mvbasic
program in its own directory named for the program in question. If you
were happy with that restriction, I could see no other hurdles short of
adoption.

Google CDP for vcs, subversion, and prc. You'll find this has been
discussed several times.

Good luck.
