Default UV Personal Edition Linux Terminal Settings - 05-03-2005 , 05:01 PM

I recently installed the Personal edition for Linux on my laptop. At the
end of the initial install the shell script started up Universe to finish
configuring some basic account settings. The Universe session ran fine
under my kterm window, with the backspace key working correctly.

Now if I try to startup 'uv' from a Terminal or Xterm window, the backspace
key is interpreted as a "break" key, and I have to press <CTRL>+H to get a
backspace keystroke. This isn't a huge issue, since I have powerterm which
can emulate various pick-terminals, but it would be nice to be able to
startup universe directly from the terminal prompt and have things behave
normally.

Does anyone have any insight on how to configure the terminal settings
within universe to correctly deal with the default Linux settings? I've
started scanning through the install script to see if I can find if it did
anything special with the terminal settings, but so far I don't see
anything.

Rog,

Thanks for the pointer. I'll post a query there.

When connecting to an HP-UX universe system, that command works fine for the
unix side of things, but as soon as I startup Universe the stty setting is
ignored and I have to revert to using CTRL-H.

I don't have any backspace problems in my Linux shell, until I start a uv
session. I'm assuming there's a termcap setting I can set to instruct UV
to recognize a Linux backspace character.

One thing that is strange: if I press Ctrl-Z to stop the uv job and then
type fg to resume it, I re-enter Universe with a correctly working
backspace key. Using the sh command to get to Unix followed by exit,
restores a backspace that doesn't work (indicated by ^? on the screen)

I believe it was Darren who said...

Where'd you find the Personal edition of UV for Linux? I though they
pulled it last year?
