Default User Documentation software - 01-14-2011 , 11:48 AM

Hi group,

What software are you using to create User Documention of your system?

I have been using MS Word with hyperlinks (click on the Table of
Contents and jump to that link) It all works good untill you convert
it to PDF and you loose the links. I know that in Adobe Writer you can
create links, but the manual is on going and don't what to re-recreate
them everytime.

thanks,
-Peter G.

I'm using an older version of Help & Manual. It's excellent, but
rather expensive, IMO.

Help N Doc is a much less expensive alternative, though I have not used
it extensively - Only evaluated a bit.

Both produce PDF output, plus other formats.

Google "word pdf hyperlink". On the first page I found this forum
thread with the same question and it's full of solutions:

Visage has it's own help system built in (full context sensitivity)
that is driven by default from dictionary definitions, but you can
modify on a screen by screen basis as required.

Whilst this is meant to be used in an interactive manner, it can also
be used to generate a PDF, or, if you really NEED to, you could kills
trees :-(

And does that solve the problem of getting hyperlinks in PDF from a
Word source document? C'mon Ross, keep it pertinent.

Kevin, thanks for mentioning that. I'd never heard of Help N Doc before and
it looks to be pretty useful!

Hey Tony .... Read the post

My reading of the question as posed was simply "What software are you
using to create User Documention of your system?"

Peter then explained what he had been doing, and then issues he was
having ... my answer still stands :-)
