Default Upgrade your Eclipse Editor for Unidata/Universe - 08-25-2006 , 05:15 PM

For those of you that have not taken the opportunity to use our Free
Full screen editor that uses state of the art technology from
Eclipse.org, this announcement may fall on deaf ears. We at U2logic
have been real busy adding this and that to our free products.

Today we are announcing an outline feature for your basic code. What
is an outline feature? Java programmers know this but U2 programmers
do not. All of your labels in your basic code show up in the outline
form. So if you are looking for a label called 375 you just click on
it in the outline window and the editor takes you to the code. What a
handy feature to traverse your basic code.

Try it out and let us know at www.u2logic.com. Pick the downloads
options on our menu.

Enjoy!

Great. For those of you that haven't figured out how to enable the outline
view: go into Window, Show View, Other, Basic, Outline.

It also appears to have downloaded the XLr8 Developer. I did install Tomcat,
but I haven't yet figured out how to start the wizards :-(

Hi,

Personnaly i prefer the outlining that you get in say MS visual studio,
where it is done within the actual code window (with +/- blocks), and
also works with if/end, for/next, etc. Also you can create your own
code blocks using #Region perhaps !Region in databsic ?? Also the
syntax highlighting in say unidebugger or wintegrate editor is better.
I think if the syntax highlighting was better I might use it as my main
editor.

Keep up the good work tho, If you continue to add features i think it
could become the editor of choice for the majority....

XLr8 Developer was loaded with the build. We have not release the back
end code or the war file for Tomcat. It should be released around
September 21st.

We will be enhancing the editor to do the (+/- blocks) as well has
syntax highlighting. Unfortuately, we don't have a date when those
feature will be added to the product. However it is good to here you
like what we done so far.

As a "me too", I've become VERY accustomed to the +/- blocks, which in
Visual Studio are simple Regions. I've been looking for an editor in
the MV market that would do this and would feel some major freedom
with this feature. I can explain if anyone is interested but I won't
bore anyone with details now.

Doug...
1) The U2Logic website aborts with a dialog because it can't
instantiate an XMLHTTP object. No, I'm sorry, I'm not going to allow
sites in my "internet" trust area to instantiate components, I don't
care what they are. This leaves me with nothing to look at on your
home page but a menu, and I have no access to the rest of your site.

2) Can you explain how the Eclipse Editor relates to XLr8? It seems
to me you had a very expensive product that was withdrawn from the
market, then renamed or re-distributed as freeware in the form of a
simple editor, but it's still somehow hooked in with commercialware by
the same name. It also seems to be open source from IBM. Does that
mean we can attempt to port it to other platforms if we wish? And
what's the connection between U2Logic and IBM? As you can see I'm
completely confused and I hope you can explain for me/us exactly
what's free, what's not, and what each piece does. (Can anyone say
"marketing opportunity")

Thanks
T

Absolutely! I usually send ummm...nasty messages to the webmasters of sites
which do this sort of thing, but I'll let Tony's comments speak for me.
