Default Universe User License Question - 07-11-2005 , 02:30 PM

Could someone tell me, if you wish to increase your user count for a
UniVerse database must the purchase be made through IBM. I recently checked
on the cost to increase my user count by 2 and it was $517 per user. Seemed
expensive so I thought I would check.
Thanks for any input.

The short answer is no. You do not have to go through IBM.
There are a number of vars that can sell you new licenses.
Pulsar Systems, (I think) LadyBridge Systems in the UK, Zumasys,
Avatech in Germany, MBS in Australia, and many more that I
can not think of at the moment.

Of course you also need to be aware that there may be
user-count/licence issues with the application software you are using,
as it may also have licences fees associated with it ... unless your
company owns it :-)

You are best going through the people you bought universe off (i.e. the
VAR). if you bought direct from IBM (perhaps unusual) then they would
be best. The prices are pretty much standard as it is part of the VAR
agreement to sell at certain prices.

Pat,

If you have not purchased any UniVerse users in the past couple of
years, $517 may seem a bit more expensive. Keep in mind that the price
now includes one year support which was a separate line item in the
past.

As for sourcing the UniVerse users, since UniVerse is embedded in your
application, you should go to your solution provider for additional
UniVerse users.
