Default Universe file type 27 - 11-07-2003 , 02:25 PM

Just writing something which is doing a lot of creating and deleting
files in order to build a safe testing account, and found one file
with a type of 27.

I'm guessing that this relates to the file being distributed, but
haven't found any documentation to support me. Anyone got it down in
black and white?

According to my UV 10 UniVerse Description Manual the
valid file types are 1 through 19, 25 and 30. I did a search
of the whole manual for any reference to type 27 and
did not get any hits.

Maybe someone that was part of the UniVerse development
or support in the past will chime in.

If you've got UniVerse or UniData (now known as IBM U2 Products),
the best group, without question, to toss such questions by are hanging out
at
u2-users (AT) oliver (DOT) com.

HTH!

Paul,

The TCL command "LIST.DF filename" will tell you about the distributed file.
Your might want to display the HELP information for the commands DEFINE.DF,
VERIFY.DF, and REBUILD.DF. Moving a distributed file to another account
will require "fixing" the locations of the part files. A LIST.DF of the
moved distributed file will show that it still is referencing the part files
in the original account. VERIFY.DF will show you what the REBUILD.DF
command will fix. The REBUILD.DF command will require you to specify the
distribution algorithm that the distributed file uses to access records in
the distributed file. The sysdesc.pdf document describes Distributed Files
in great detail.

Another worry in copying accounts is Alternate Indexes. These type 25 files
have I_ entries in accounts and the indexed files themselves have the
pathnames to their indexes written in their file headers. If you move the
files and indexes without changing these pathnames you will find that you
are updating the indexes in the original account when you update files in
the copied account. The SET.INDEX command will show you the current index
state of a file and let you change its index pathname.
