Default Unidata 6 and Replication - Anybody successful? Pitfalls? Resources? - 08-01-2006 , 08:28 AM

I've got a unique situation; our financial systems are setup to run
end-of-month closings, but due to the sale of the company, we will be
required to create a duplicate of our production system and run a
mid-month close on the duplicate system, and then maintain that system
through the remainder of the year. Oh, and we have to have all this
set up in 2 weeks! I love IT!

I'm running HPUX 11, Unidata 6, with about 150 users, and looking at
maybe 30 files that need synced.

So, I'm thinking of using Replication in Unidata 6 to keep my
transaction files in sync, and then running my daily postings on both
systems.

Has anyone out there used Replication? How is it working for you? How
easy was it to setup? Maintain? Any horror stories or hard learned
nuggets? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, as well as if
anyone can point me to some good resources ( books, consultants,
websites ) that they think would be useful.

Thanks!

There's a discussion going on now on the u2ug email list server. I
tried searching the archives to get something specific for you but it
seems there's a problem with their server at the moment - but you
can find instructions on how to sign up to the list-server at
http://www.u2ug.org or http://listserver.u2ug.org/ There are UniData
and UniVerse peeps here too, but the vast majority use the email list.

Mike.

There is also a web based service if you just want to track recent

Yup - been there and it has worked fine. I would pop the question on
the u2 mailing list tho, as i know some people on there have had issues
with certain versions of udt and *nix etc

if you are not on the u2 mailing list go to
http://u2ug.org/index.php?module=Con...20Menu&meid=14
to subscribe

Also your IBM VAR or local IBM centre arre usually keen to help in
these kind of situations., there will be a consultancy fee, but it may
well be worthwhile.
