Default UniAdmin tool - problem connect to servers. (AIX) - 09-25-2006 , 11:57 PM

Hi all !

I have 2 servers which are using universe ver 10 of AIX system. For
daily administration task, I have successfully installed the universe
administration (uniadmin) at my PC to connect server 1. but failed to
install in server 2. I followed exactly what I have done in server 1
but still the tool cannot connect to server2.

Below is the error when enter userid and password at server 2 :

"The directory doest not exist, or is not a universe account."

One thing I realized , when I registrar the server 2 (uniadmin menu) ,
the machine type (UNIX,Window NT) is not appear.

fyi, my PC can ping to server2.

I hope somebody can help me.

Thank you
shoux

Hi Shoux - just a few points...

Does server two have unirpcd running and is it using port 31438? - you
can check both of these on the o/s of server 2.

If someone has changed the default setup of universe on server two you
may have problems connecting from a client application, i would go
through the universe admin manuals to ensure everything is set up
correctly.

Also does the user id you are using to login in to server 2 have enough
priviledges, not just to the account direcotry but also the unirpcd
setup files (usually in ./usr/unirpc on *nix)

Hi symeon !

thanks for the response. btw, this is an ouput from your point :

1. yes uvrpc is using port 31438 (/etc/services).

2. the unirpc deamon is ON.
root 5958 7500 0 09:22:43 - 0:00 /usr/sbin/rpc.lockd

root 15194 1 0 09:25:29 pts/15 0:00 /unishared/unirpc/unirpcd

root 34470 7500 0 09:22:27 - 0:00 /usr/sbin/rpc.statd

3. the default parameter is not change since day one.

4. the actual error message as follows (login as ROOT).

RPC connection error 1
" The directory does not exits, or is not a universe account"

someone please help me.

Thank you
Shoux

Sorry for the delay - is this still a problem ?

Apparently it checks for the following in an account - do these files
exist ?

VOC
D_VOC
VOCLIB
D_VOCLIB
&SAVEDLISTS&
D_&SAVEDLISTS&
