I think
depts anyway
only place I recall had full time documentors
"runoff" was it
nice terminals with back paging -- helped a lot in work
people used to clean it for you all the keys independently
I worked with a brilliant girl who was marrying an RAF pilot
she worked on social service systems - interesting - we really got into
correlatives reverse polish notation -- as fast as the machine as fast as
it can be
why did that place go bust? software cos always went bust
DEC Ultimate - huge big washing machines -- IBM tapedecks
can't remember the data -- I remember the data at the RSPB - that was
fun just lots of data wrote amazing software to address the lot -
deduplication -- it was all great fun -- big pond - koi carp
hot summer great people -- busy busy busy
peacocks
revelation -- converted all their systems to AREV
got the site species database off the ground -- moved it forward in
1 night stayed up all night they let me off with the £2k relocation
for that -- bob leadham - mr leadham -- the best manager I ever had
why the hell did I leave
I dunno -- had done everything there had finished everything
nothing much more I could do
apart from working on the obvious stuff sorting out situations -
moving their crap over to new systems -- they were going onto NT I
recall had considered universe -- it was all prime information -
ampersand pace ...
had run out of things to do -- because I am so fast ... I remember
doing the conversion of their security system ie. all the egg stealers
had keys to the room with all the records in it -- interesting ...
could do all work by mid monday used to sleep on the desk -- anyone
wanted me I would be phoned -- sleeping head on the desk drooling
wake up .... in the cube farm within the portacabins I had mastered
having long snooze with piece of paper held up in front of me like I
was reading -- was funny -- everyone seemed to be asleep -- but work
was getting done -- one guy actually ended up asleep and his chair
spun round he was facing outwards it was funny
talk about sleep -- I remember once at west merchant guy opposite me
nice guy £60 an hour vb and swaps -- from chicago got fired for sleeping
on the job -- was facing him -- used to phone the poor guy up - heavy
lunch -- no problem -- guy got fired -- just went over the road to nat
west I think ...
its just all funny
I had a great career
In the room with the key etc middle of the RSPB I used to climb up the
shelves out of a skylight onto the roof and snooze in the sunlight
never had a better time than I had there -- and I did so much work |
