I'm looking at migrating an application which, given its heritage, would be
suitable for D3. Is there a trial download available?

Last I looked, there's only a non-free developer version. I'll ask @ the
Spectrum RD booth tomorrow to be sure. Is there a specific reason you want
D3?

Many thanks - it would be helpful to know what's available, even just as a
low cost single-user licence.

I want D3 because my accounts are running on Advanced Pick SCO and I want to
migrate them quickly and easily, without conversion work, and retain the
things I've always liked about Advanced Pick.

When I used to attend the Pick conferences years ago, there was always a
time-limited download available of D3.

At least with D3 for linux, you can download what you need from the RD
web site, and run it as an un-activated single user system. There are
certain other things disabled for an unactivated system, but just to try
it to see what D3 looks like, why not?

I didn't have time to stop by and ask today and I'm leaving early in
the morning to fly out. Sorry! Maybe someone else who's checking the
group can verify. I'm almost 100% sure that you will have to buy a
developer license to get a fully activated system, but as a recent
poster stated you can download and install D3. You can then obtain a
temporary activation from their web site, but it will still not be
100% functional.

Yikes! You know, if you don't have a huge amount of PROCs in it you
should consider downloading OpenQM and giving it a whirl. Even if you
do have PROCs, don't lose hope. There is a group on Google Groups
where you can ask questions. Responses are normally quick, but this
week is the Spectrum conference.

I have not personally attemped a migration from our D3 box yet, but
I've tried to be active in the GPL development as a native developer.
I'll answer the questions I can here, but you're better off asking in
the OpenQM group. If you like the environment and you complete a
migration on the GPL version, then all you have to do is pay for
commercial support/licenses and do an upgrade. Licenses are quite
inexpensive, compared to many other flavors. If you don't want
commercial support and commercial enhancements/bug fixes then you can
run the GPL version indefinately. Just don't ask Ladybridge for help
when you find a bug. <G>

Thanks Art

I can't find any download links on the web site. Would you mind pointing me
in the right direction?

Or, if you run Windows try:

ftp://ftp.rainingdata.com/pub/NT/7.5.0/

and download the entire directory, which will download the documentation,
patches, and release.

There is a free evaluation of D3 available. Send an email to
orders (AT) rainingdata (DOT) com and request a 30 day evaluation license.

Robert, thanks for looking in and making a note about that. I didn't know
that 30-day full installs were available. I look forward to 7.6 on Linux
when it comes out. Is there any way to get a sneak peek at what a developer
will be able to do with the XML stuff? I'm _really_ interested in getting
access to a native validating XML parser.
