Default terminal emulator for linux desktop? - 05-18-2005 , 10:31 PM

I'm trying to move some of my salespeople from green screens to a
windowing environment, probably KDE on linux desktop. All they need
outside of access to the pick application is openoffice, a browser, and
e-mail.

What recommendations are there for terminal emulation and Pick - PC file
transfer? I'm still using Pkharmony on some old DOS PC's (a 286) and I
like that, but either my salespeople will never have to do a PC - Pick
transfer or they'll need something a whole lot easier to use. Will
Accuterm lite run under Linux?

Whats wrong with good old `telnet' ?, & You could use SaMBa to do the file
transfers!

A massive thread has been running on this topic and various
digressions for a few weeks. Google for the history.

There's also a product called Term For Linux, marketed by Century
Software. As I recall, it was a bit pricey.

Try setting up an application link on the KDE desktop, and in the
application tab in the command field, put:

konsole -e telnet 01.234.567.89

putting in your own ip address, of course. Set the terminal emulation
type on your Pick system to "ansi".

Are there any special features that distinguish putty from native xterm,
or konsole telnet?

SSH. Useful for remote access.

Do I understand correctly that ssh will not work in a nailed telnet
environment? Or at least not with D3's telnet server?

I'd say that's a big "yes".
