Default Telnet error on w2k3 - 08-30-2005 , 03:16 PM

I searched the archives for this error but
never found and answer. Hope someone has
some insight on this.

I am running w2k3 sp1 with D3 7.4.x installed.
It is a new install and the data has not yet
been copied onto the server. After the install
I could telnet into D3 without any problem.
Later, the server was rebooted and telnet has
never started successfully again. I get an
message that says: "Could not start the Telnet
service on Local Computer."
Error 13:The data is invalid.

I have searched the Microsoft knowledge base and
googled the error with no joy.

Ron,

you DO NOT want to start the Windows telnet service ! D3 has it's own
(albiet troubled) telnet service, and you don't want both running at
the same time (unless you are using D3 nailed Telnet sessions, but I
haven't seen too many people run the Windows telnet server on 2K3.

Anyway, I'd first confirm that D3 has started after the reboot ... that
is the more likely problem area I believe

Problem solved.

FYI, before you begin the install of D3 check the windows
telnet service and be sure it is disabled. The telnet
service in D3 7.4.5 runs on port 23 also and will lock up
if windows telnet is not disabled. I had to remove the service
pack in D3, reboot the system and then reinstall the service
pack. Everything works now. Time for some major caffeine. :-)

Thanks,
