Hmm, well, my suggestion regarding DCD was to prevent license loss
after a disconnect, but it didn't address disconnects at all. I
wouldn't guess as to what the problem was if went away after a reboot.
Anyone else?

Rod, can you tell us if that is AP or D3, what the release is, and if
you've found that -icrlf in the AIX user login profile yet? What
about where the users are, inside or outside a firewall, etc. More
questions than answers for this thread...

Tony,

The USER-COLDSTART does have the TRAP DCD EXIT command, but no users have
the DCD-ON in them. Interestingly, this system had not been rebooted in
some time. They hadn't tried that yet because it's a painfully slow machine
to reboot. But it worked; they don't get the disconnects any more.

Here's the system info:

:which
System Release Information
==========================
D3 Release Version 7.4.2.RS

Interesting thing --- the customer says the problem came back about five days after the reboot. He says firewalling shouldn't be a problem, but offered nothing more. Looks like the -icrlf is unrelated; I just hadn't known what it was to begin with. He wants to take this to RD, so we may. This particular customer will be moving to a Windows system in a few months, so presumably the problem will go away then. But the Telnet disconnects prevent his filesaves from running overnight, hence his desire to solve the problem.

Unless there is a pressing matter to have a live telnet session run the backup, I would run the backup using a background processor and have the system put any logs into a hold file.

It doesn't fix your problem, but it could very well circumvent the problem.
