Default Server Upgrade - 05-17-2006 , 12:15 PM

I have a client who is running a 15+ year old credit and collection software
package on a 8-10 year old mvBase / NT server. This is not one of my regular
clients. I was saddled with them a few years ago when the only other Pick
programmer in the area moved away. They are located in Madera, CA. Now I
have moved away as well.

The software it rife with PROC, but it all seems to be pretty generic stuff.
I just modified the credit reporting programs to upload a flat file via
Accuterm rather than writing to tape since the credit bureaus no longer
accept tape media.

I really wish they would purchase a whole new system from a company that
offers support to get them off my hands. But that does not appear to be the
case.

Their server needs to be upgraded. I suggested D3 because I thought that
would be the easiest migration from mvBase. I also suggested D3/Linux since
that is what all the rest of my clients are running. This client however
wants NT because his local tech is an NT expert and no one in the area knows
Linux. His local tech does seem to be pretty sharp. The server took a dump a
couple of weeks ago and he recovered it, even the mvBase. Although I would
suck it up and do the D3/Linux upgrade (and make over $2k in the process), I
don't feel comfortable doing the upgrade to D3/NT.

Anyone out there want to take on the server upgrade? You can have the
software support as well if you want, but you don't have to.

Please let me know.
Jeff

Oh Kevin!

Well this is the guy who you took how many weeks to call back? ROFL and the Feller you thought for some reason was Count Darling! Sorry Count... I'e spoken with you several times now, Kevin. You might want to check your email at
J kauffman (AT) keydata (DOT) US or perhaps this note might remind you...

I had no idea that you are in the Bay Area. Our offices are in Berkeley
(home office), Richmond (real office), and San Mateo (home office). We are
working on a re-write of our software using PHP and AJAX on the front end
with D3/Linux on the back end (where it belongs). If we can find some
funding, perhaps we can bring you in. We should have lunch sometime to
discuss options.

Now I'm really confused. Don't know what you're talking about.

What? We've never spoken directly via e-mail or phone.

What does an e-mail from J.K. have to do with me?
