I have a serial printer that intermittently requires a stop/start (offline/online) on the panel to get it to print a job. When a user sends a job to it, it won't print, the queue in LISTPEQS shows it as being printed, go to the printer and press the stop (offline) button and then the start (online) button and away it goes. Sometimes requires multiple tries, but usually once is enough. One thing I found is that if I hold the print queue, then queue up all my jobs, then release the queue, it will print every job without a problem. Once that run is down however, it will require the stop/start to get it going again. It's almost as if after waiting more than a few seconds it assumes an XOFF state and never gets the XON to go again. Marshall Lucas |

It sounds like a noisy serial line. Do all your printers behave that way? Do you have another line you can connect the printer to? dsig.
