Default Selling MV... - 03-28-2007 , 01:03 PM

All,
I'm considering giving my "Selling MultiValue to Upper
Management" presentation as a free webinar. I'd appreciate response
(to Results (AT) KeyAlly (DOT) com, not to the list) with (A) would you attend,
and (B) what scheduling would work for you - nights, weekends, midday,
etc. I'll post summary feedback to the list on how many were
interested and when.

The presentation was originally developed for a session at
International Spectrum in Long Beach, CA. It addresses the basic rules
for positioning yourself where you can save and expand the use of MV
in your place of business. While not primarily directed to consultants
and third party software companies, it does touch on important points
for them as well.

If I don't see interest, I'll take the hint and roundfile the
idea. If, however, it's of value, I'm more than happy to spend the
time offering it.

All,
I posted yesterday to CDP and U2-Users, offering to do a free
webinar on Selling MultiValue to Upper Management. In less than 24
hours, I've received 14 "I'd like to attends" split pretty evenly
between "anytime", "business hours", and "weekends".

I'm going to see about scheduling two sessions in April, one
during business hours and one on the weekend. If you are interested
and have not contacted me yet, please e-mail me off-list
(Results (AT) KeyAlly (DOT) com). I'll notify everyone once the dates and venue
are set.

Oh, and I need a favor. I have a temporary problem posting to
jBase-Tech list. If anyone would be willing to post the offer there
(and any other places you might think useful) I would appreciate it.
We need to get the word out that at least some of the time we can stop
companies from moving away - and sometimes we can even get them to
commit more towards MV.

Charles,

I am pleased that you received such a positive response. I am interested in
your success and am sure the information you provide is valuable to large IT
departments. However your topic is not something that we deal with. We sell
to small and medium size companies and never mention multi-value or the
database in a sales presentation. The only thing we say is that we run in
Linux and only if they ask. Once our software is up and running, they no
longer care, if they ever did, about the database.

Thank you for your support of the MV market.

Regards,
Jeff

Jeff,
I'm glad to hear that you are meeting with so much success. I
actually do talk about selling MV by not selling MV. It isn't a main
theme in my presentation, but it is a recurring theme in many
conversations with the more successful companies in our market.

My focus, in this talk, is more on the lines of "you sold your
product, the client hired a programmer, things are going well, and
suddenly that in house programmer has to defend the system from a
blind-sided "My golf buddy told me this tech sucks" attack.'

Some of your clients staff or consultants might well need to sit
in on the talk. If you know of anyone who'd benefit, please pass the
word along.

And thank you for your kind thoughts.

- Chuck

Hi Jeff
It sounds like you are very lucky. I have the opposite situation in that IT
departments of companies that have taken over my customers say that Pick is
unsupportable because it is old technology. I even have a couple that run
ISAM files with Cobol claiming theirs is better.
I believe that I have said before - Politics always outshines prowess. This
is particularly hard to battle when they are in house and you are 1000km
away.
Go for it Charles.

G'day Charles!

Maybe you should/could also consider making a "tape" of the
presentation, so that it can be accessed by others in a non-
interactive mode. We use "Camtasia", from Techsmith for our
presentations, which does an excellent job and provides a bevy of
features (eg: convert your presentation as a pod cast)
